At a school complex of more than 1,000 students in Pordenone, including four schools, the first Double-Stage heat pump was installed the same year it received the Smart Future Mind Award. The heat pump was inserted to supplement a thermal power plant with dispatching priority, replacing a natural gas boiler. It provides heating in the winter season (classrooms and gym) and DHW (bathrooms) throughout the year by feeding a radiator system. The choice of the heat pump stemmed not only from the desire to invest in an innovation with proven efficiency, but also from the need to offer high temperature (80°C), a key element in promiscuous settings such as schools, which are exposed to legionella risk, and the goal of eliminating student exposure to the emission of harmful pollutants on site. The result was the zeroing of approx. 18 tons/year of CO2 and a 50% reduction in pre-intervention operating costs.
