A TEON heat pump with a nominal heat output of 82 kW was installed at an apartment building built in the mid-1980s in the western suburbs of Milan in Class B. The heat pump replaced a natural gas-fired condensing boiler to produce heating in the winter season and DHW throughout the year. The intervention was carried out without modifying the existing system, which consisted of radiators, and included the construction of a well for groundwater extraction. At the power plant, a thermal storage was inserted to allow for greater availability of domestic water than in the previous situation, resulting in the elimination of the natural gas line. The saving achieved in the first two years of operation amounted to 55% vs. previous spending. This saving, together with the Ecobonus equal to 65% of the investment, made it possible to cover the mortgage payment and the operating costs of the new power plant. The introduction of the TEON heat pump also eliminated approx. 26 tons/year of CO2 emitted to the condominium chimney.
